Societies Registration Act, 1860 is a central act adopted by almost all the states in India. The objective of a society is promotion of arts, science, education, or for purpose of charity. Tax exemption due to charitable operations and perpetual existence are advantages of society registration. According to the act, seven or more persons can register a society after subscribing to a Memorandum of Association (MOA). The MOA should include the name and objective of the society, and the names, addresses, and occupations of members part of the governing body. The Memorandum of Association should be accompanied by the Rules and Regulations which include details for enrolling of members, procedure of conducting meetings, election of office bearers, etc.

How to register a society in India?

Decide a name for the society and form a governing body of seven or more persons. Draft the Memorandum and rules of the society signed by all members. Provide ID and address proof of members of the governing body. Fill all the documents with registrar of societies to obtain society registration.
